📝 Pre-Relocation Planning (60–90 Days Before Move)

- Review and sign the relocation package and policy
- Confirm relocation benefits (e.g., home sale assistance, temporary housing, tax gross-ups, spousal support)
- Assign a dedicated Relocation Counselor (if applicable)
- Establish timeline with target move date
- Notify current landlord or begin home sale process (if applicable)
- Research new location (schools, lifestyle, cost of living, etc.)
- Set a relocation budget (track reimbursable and out-of-pocket expenses)
🔹 Housing
- Schedule a home finding trip (if offered)
- Decide whether to rent or buy at destination
- Engage with real estate agents in departure and destination locations
- Begin home sale or lease termination process
- Get a home valuation and/or appraisal (Amended Value or GBO program if included)
🔹 Schooling (if applicable)
- Research schools and daycares in the new location
- Collect academic records, immunizations, and transfer paperwork
- Contact schools to schedule tours and enroll children
🔹 Employer Coordination
- Schedule final work date at current location
- Coordinate start date at new location
- Arrange for time off needed for moving
- Discuss tax implications with HR/Payroll
🔹 International Only
- Apply for required visas and work permits
- Schedule consular appointments

📦 Moving Preparation (30–60 Days Before Move)

- Decide on shipping vs storage of household items
- Make arrangements for transporting pets
- Notify utility companies of disconnection dates
- Arrange utility setup at the destination
- Submit mail forwarding through USPS or postal provider

- Secure important personal and financial documents
- Notify banks, insurance providers, and credit card companies
- Set up new bank accounts (for international moves)
- Update voter registration and driver’s license address

- Obtain medical and dental records

- Prepare for currency exchange and access to funds abroad
- Set up international mobile service or SIM cards
🏠 Departure Week
- Conduct final walk-through of current home
- Complete move-out cleaning and repairs (if required)
- Confirm travel and accommodation arrangements
- Confirm move-in date with destination housing
- Create an "Essentials Bag" (passports, toiletries, clothes, electronics, medication)
✈️ Relocation Travel & Move-In

- Travel to new location (airfare or vehicle transport)
- Check into temporary housing or permanent residence
- Perform move-in inspection and inventory
- Supervise household goods delivery
- Test utilities, appliances, and internet
- Unpack and begin settling in
🧾 Post-Move Activities (First 30–60 Days After Move)
🔹 Personal Setup
- Register vehicle and get new driver’s license
- Register children in school
- Find local service providers (doctors, vets, babysitters, etc.)
- Establish new routines and explore neighborhood
🔹 Professional
- Meet with new manager or relocation support team
- Complete any post-move expense reports
- Participate in post-relocation surveys or check-ins
- Begin new role and integrate into office or virtual team
🔹 International Only
- Complete residency registration (if required)
- Schedule cultural orientation follow-ups
- Stay in contact with tax and legal advisors for compliance
✅ Ongoing Support (First 6–12 Months)
- Finalize permanent housing (if previously in temporary)
- File relocation-related tax documentation (Form 3903, etc.)
- Attend any ongoing relocation counseling or adjustment programs
- Ensure all reimbursements are processed
- Provide feedback to HR and relocation vendor
